Our story

From Sparta to the Fraser Valley

Two brothers, one family and three restaurants, started with souvlaki and gyros in Sparta, Greece.

  1. 1974 · Sparta, Greece

    Twin brothers George and Gus Sahamis leave Sparta for Canada at 16. Back home, they sold souvlaki and gyros to locals and tourists.

  2. 1982 · Abbotsford

    At 24, the brothers take over a run-down restaurant, Golphis Steak and Pizza, and turn it around. More Fraser Valley restaurants follow.

  3. Today · Two generations

    Sons, daughters, in-laws and nephews run three Greek Islands restaurants in Abbotsford and Chilliwack.
